Creating a Tree

• Create a text file with the names and the corresponding phage-phage distances
• This file is used as input to create a tree using the Neighbor program in Phylip
• The algorithm used in Phylip is based on the UPGMA method

Neighbor input format:

• Matrix in file must be symmetric
• The diagonals of the matrix must be 0
• File must have three spaces in between each data entry
• Name can be no longer than 10 characters
• There must be at least 10 spaces before the data entries
• Data must have the same number of significant figures
